This is an exciting adventure story that really happened. A hundred years ago, an American journalist called henry Morton Stanley marched into the African jungle. He went to look for Dr David Livingstone. Livingstone was a famous missionary and explorer and had gone to Africa several years before. he had disappeared without trace. At last Stanley tracked him down and the whole world was excited to learn about their meeting.
Each page in this book shows you what Africa looked like to the first white men that explored their jungles. You can see the strange animals of this continent and learn about the customs of the African tribes. Some of these customs seem very evil to us today, like the slave trade. look carefully at the pictures - they will show you what "Darkest Africa" was like one hundred years ago.
